Be snack smart.......

According to the Cambridge online dictionary, .......a snack is a small amount of food that is eaten between meals, or a very small meal.....

For the purpose of our exposition today, the key phrase in the above meaning of the word --- snack is SMALL AMOUNT OF FOOD-----

THIS MEANS SMALL IN EVERY SENSE-------- QUANTITY AND CALORIE CONTENT.

There are times in between meals that we crave a snack and ideally if you want your body to keep burning fat,  you should eat small meals regularly like say every 3 hours......that way your body will not go into starvation mode.....( which happens when you skip meals, tie your teeth , yoyo diet and so on ).........

Your choice of food for snack will either aid your weight loss of sabotage it

When you think of snacking......what food choices occur to you?

Biscuits, cookies, ( just read the food labels on the packs and see how much calories are in them )

Meatpie , cake , puff puff, chocolate, plantain chips, Sausage rolls, Boiled or roasted corn, Boli ( roasted plantain) ..........You get my drift? # wink#

                          AS OPPOSED TO THESE.......

I

Garden eggs (solanum melongena )and a handful of roasted unsalted groundnut, a banana, an Apple, a

a handful cashew nuts, a slice of watermelon, a pear ( not avocadoes ..which are dense with

calories so a serving should be a quarter of the fruit ) ,

a medium size Cucumber ..diced, a tangerine,  a cup of low fat unsweetened yoghurt, a cup
of diced papaya (pawpaw)

Carrot , pink Grapefruit eaten like tangerines ( mandarins)

a mug of tea ( not hot  chocolate ooooo....Read my post on ....IT IS MY CUP OF TEA ) and  the possibilities are limitless if you can just get into the healthy eating lifestyle....

What are your thoughts on this ?

  1. I totally agree with u on the choice of snacks, sis. But i'm not sure I can give up on 'bole' o. Tho here in PH,it's a meal cos it's taken with roasted fish and Utazi leaves. For those who don't like Cucumber, try it with Groundnut and a glass of chilled fresh juice or water.......hmmmm. Emma

  2. Plantain chips and Boli- very guilty, Meatpie-Guilty. Okay ooooooo. Its a battle that must be won but one can still indulge sometimes. I have started trying hard to infuse fruits in my diet for a start and gradually, I shall move up with determination.

  4. @ Bimbolus....of course there is always room for indulgence once in a ' blue 'moon.....as long as we don't let it sneak into our almost every day diet that becomes a weakness....All will be well...
