Sleep your way to your ideal weight.......

Most of us don't get enough sleep whether because of the fast - paced modern day lifestyle or as a deliberate attempt to achieve more.......

This has a very high impact on our weight and overall health......Studies have shown that people who sleep less than 7 hours a day are 30% more likely to be obese than those who get 9 hours or more of sleep.....

Do you wake up each morning not wanting to get out of bed, feeling tired , grumpy , lethargic and fuzzy in the head so much so that you NEED a caffeine fix in the form of coffee or energy drinks to function? .....OR Sugary cereal  OR fizzy drinks....

Whenever we don't get enough sleep, it's more than grumpiness and lethargy that happens to us........Our metabolism will not function properly....It will be significantly slower.

You feel low and will automatically reach for the comfort foods and drinks that are most times unhealthy and have too many dead calories.....

You just want to jolt yourself awake and function.....

The sleep deprivation and weight gain link is as a result of two hormones.....GHRELIN and LEPTIN

Ghrelin is the hormone that sends hunger signals in our body so we can eat and you have more ghrelin when you are sleep deprived
Leptin is the hormone that tells us when to stop eating and when you are sleep deprived you have less leptin.....

MORE GHRELIN + LESS LEPTIN = WEIGHT GAIN

PROLONGED LACK OF ADEQUATE SLEEP CAN ALSO COMPROMISE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM......making it difficult to fend off infections....like flu and common cold....

The quality of our sleep directly affects the quality of our waking life and all the activities we do + how we do them.

TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP PATTERN

  •         Make your bedroom space as relaxing as possible....so no Television.....#smile#
  •        Try to have a bed time
  •        The recommended number of hours of sleep by researchers is between 7.5 and 9......work to stay within this range
  •        Wean yourself off coffee and energy drinks they are not beneficial to your health in the long run.....
  •     Sleep in during the weekends and let your body wake you; not alarm.....

Blog visitors, how you you cope with sleep deprivation?....As for me I just eat or lately ...I exercise( makes me feel better..#smile#).
