Say Moo........Cow Milk and other alternatives 3

                                      SOYA MILK

Soy milk is derived from Soya beans. It is made when the beans are soaked, peeled, ground. sieved and the resulting liquid cooked.

The milk is a complete protein with about the same protein content as cow milk.

Soy milk is an excellent choice for weight loss and healthy diet as it  has no cholesterol because it is made from plant material and it is naturally lower in sugar than regular cow milk. The monounsaturated fatty acids in soy milk can inhibit your intestinal absorption of fat.

It is better to consume fortified soy milk because at least calcium and B vitamins ( especially B12 ) would have been added to it.

Soy milk naturally contains ISOFLAVONES ......These are plant derived compounds that acts  in a manner similar to to the hormone estrogen in humans. Isaflavones are  antioxidants and have been found to have cancer fighting qualities in several studies.

Researchers have observed that regular consumption of this phyto compound has positively impacted on breast cancer risks both for post menopausal and pre menopausal women. However research is still ongoing on this.

The consumption of abnormally high levels of isoflavones is questionable but regular consumption of soy milk is considered healthy

The phyto estrogen (Isoflavones) in Soy milk is an effective estrogen replacement in post menopausal women; which needed because the sudden reduction in estrogen can create a myriad of health problems for this particular category of women.

Statistics have shown that incidence of  Prostrate and breast cancers are very low in countries that have a high intake of soy products (including milk)

All the above is another reason why you should vary your diet to include soy milk.......So in summary for optimal benefits.....we can include organic ( to avoid growth hormones) skimmed milk, almond milk and soy milk in our diets. However, you can choose rice milk if you have nut allerges or have shown a reaction to soy milk.

I personally hate the taste of soy milk......iiiiiiiiuuuuuuuuuuu....... but for the health benefits I will try to consume it more often....DO YOU LIKE IT?
