Say Moo........Cow Milk and other alternatives 2

                                                             RICE MILK.

Rice milk is a diary free milk derived commonly from Brown rice and it is usually unsweetened. This milk is made from Brown rice cooked in water and strained........Commercial brands are usually fortified with some essential vitamins, calcium and iron.

                     


This type of milk contains more carbohydrates and an insignificant amount of protein and calcium........Most store bought brands are calcium fortified; but  since the protein contents is quite low, anyone regularly consuming rice milk should increase his/ her protein intake from other sources.

      Rice milk is completely cholesterol free making it healthy for our hearts and lactose free also making it an ideal choice for people who are lactose intolerant. It is especially the natural alternative for people who suffer from nut allergies and are avoiding dairy products.


It naturally tastes sweeter than cow milk.

For the purpose of weight loss, rice milk is not an ideal choice as its calorie content is quite high since it is derived from a grain.......At about 140 kcal per cup as against 97 kcal in a cup of skimmed cow milk and 40 kcal in a  cup of unsweetened almond milk.

We have to make informed food choices for sustainable weight loss....# wink#......Let's not just follow fads or products adverts........
