Red meat and fat........

A diet rich in Saturated fat has a direct impact on the cholesterol levels in the body which in the long run has the potential of leading to cardiovascular and coronary heart disease.

In our food culture, we regularly eat some cuts of meat that we are better of without.......

Red meat can be enjoyed with all the attendant nutrients that are simply lacking in white meat as long as we eat the organic grass fed variety in the right portion.

The main thing here is how often we eat it and how lean  the cut is + the method of cooking we use.

  • Sheep ....aka rago, salah meat......This meat is generally fatty so it's best grilled or barbecued because then the fat will have melted away.
  • Goat......It is the healthiest of red meats. Goat meat is said to be lower in fat than chicken but higher in protein than beef. It is lean red meat with all the attendant nutrients of red meat.
  • Cow meat..aka beef....This meat is rich in Iron and vitamin B12 which aids in red blood cells production.....What we should look for is organic ..100% grass fed meat in lean cuts ( where most of the fat has been trimmed off.
  • Offal meats ........aka orisirisi...
We enjoy the internal organs and ears of the above mentioned animals as a delicacy in our culture. However, we need to eat these meats with caution as the are most times lined with saturated fats. Personally, I only do only cow lungs and kidney and also goat tripe
Experts generally recommend that we should not eat more than 500 grams of red meat per week....= half a kilo .....

For the purpose of a healthy lifestyle or disease reversal where total abstinence is recommended there are alternatives........
Snail meat.., guinea fowl meat...( this is lean white meat) , stockfish, Crabs, Prawns, Bushmeat that is hygenically prepared.

                          Remember.....You are what you eat.......
