Since this is not a fad diet
but a realistic lifestyle change I cannot go far saying I would abstain from bread forever and do not expect that of anyone.
Before you reach for the next slice of store bought bread, take a look at the pack ( If you buy from fast-food outlets and big stores it will have ingredients written on it).
Some makers will just write preservatives while others will have things like E282( delays mould growth on the bread and there has been mixed research reactions to it)
Then there is hydrogenated fat
and trans fat which should be avoided like we avoid knowingly ingesting poison.
Hydrogenated fat is made when oil is heated to a very high temperature and hydrogen is bubbled through it while Trans fat is a product of hardening vegetable oils into margerine or shortening (can clog the arteries).
Another ingredient that is rumoured to still be in use is Bromate.
It is added to flour to make a stronger dough thereby yielding more BUT it has been linked to kidney diseases, thyroid problems and some studies have declared it a carcinogen.
With the rise in the incidence of kidney ailments in our nation it is better to err on the side of caution.
It is bad enough that white flour has been bleached and stripped of all its nutrients.....to now add chemicals to it to prolong its shelf life is double dose of toxins
This my submission.......IF YOU MUST EAT BREAD, MAKE YOUR OWN so you can at least add more nutrients by way of nuts and dried fruits (can also make gluten free loaves) and also be free of chemical additives.
Before you roll your eyes at me saying how practicable is this? Just invest in a breadmaker and all you have to do is put all the ingredients in it....it will do every other thing.
Personally I use this Panasonic SD 2500 WXC
And it is ' ebaano' Lol. (I used to have a Murphy Richards but this is better).
It doesn't consume much energy so using the average generator that can power an iron wouldn't be an issue.
Just a slice or two( not a chunk) for breakfast please # wink#.
Am so looking for this to buy......thanks girl...I loooooove food but am now working on eating right cos don't wanna get sick before I take it serious.....do you have any idea where I can get this in naija or maybe London? ....thanks
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.....in naija...check Game....in the UK ....just purchase via amazon.co.uk..... Happy baking....... #wink#
ReplyDeleteI would try baking again with this machine. Didn't like the end product so I dumped it. What's your experience with it. Or maybe it's my product.
ReplyDeleteI think it might be your baking ingredients; change them. I have consistently seen very good bread turned out. Take note t o use yeast for bread makers and good quality flour + follow recipes for bread makers. Then enjoying.
